Winter Color Guard

Background Winter guard is the "Sport of the Arts because it brings music to life through performance in a competitive format" (Winter Guard International). It combines the color guard skills of flag, saber and mock rifle drills with choreographed dance and theatrics to interpret a piece of music. Winter guard teams are limited to no more than 30 members. They attend local, regional and world championship competitions where they perform their show indoors. Winter guard teams are divided into two classes: scholastic units whose members come from the same high school or feeder school independent units with no school affiliation   The units are then further divided into classes: A Class – beginning programs and performers Open Class – The intermediate developmental level of performers World Class – The most advanced programs and performers To get a glimpse into the world of winter guard, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvdFEbDe3A0 Or to see a World Class team in action, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjh2bY6h0-E&feature=related The N-8 Winter Guard Team N8 is the winter guard team of West Windsor-Plainsboro. Membership is open to all high school students and eighth graders who live in the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district. No prior experience is necessary. The team competes locally in the Independent A Class.   The winter guard season runs from January through April. During the season, N-8 rehearses twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6-8:30pm in Commons 1 at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, 346 Clarksville Road, Princeton Junction, New Jersey.  N-8 competes in 4-5 local competitions that are held on weekends at area high schools.   N-8 2011 Tentative Competition Schedule January 29th - Hillsborough Show, Hillsborough, NJ February 26th - South Brunswick Show - Mid Season, South Brunswick, NJ March 12th - Hatboro Show, Hatboro PA March 26th - Show to be determined April 16th - MAIN Championships, South Brunswick, NJ   To Join N-8 Winter Guard N-8 is sponsored by the West Windsor Township Recreation Department. There is a $195/student participation fee, payable to West Windsor Recreation, that covers the cost of costumes and color guard equipment.
